Toppesfield, Essex 1811 Census

Village sign from The Green Man pub website:

The Essex Record Office has made me very happy by scanning and digitising their parish registers on their pay-per-view website and I have been spending a great deal of time following some of my neglected lines. In the process of doing so, I've found that a lot of my family from Stambourne, Sible Hedingham, Castle Hedingham and Great Yeldham all liked having their children baptised at Toppesfield, and have managed to fill in many missing dates in my tree now that I've finally discovered the baptisms where I didn't expect to find them.  In the process of this work, I've also managed to find out that a colleague, whose job my husband is currently on secondment to cover, is a cousin with family still in the area.

One of my other findings has been two censuses of Toppesfield, taken in 1801 and 1811, and contained in the back of the burial register, so I thought I'd transcribe them for anyone looking for their Toppesfield ancestors. Censuses were taken in those years, but they were supposed to be a population schedule only -- just the numbers of males and females in each village -- but Gilbert Malcolm, Curate of Toppesfield, also gave the names of the heads of households, and the occupations: a real treat for the researcher!
