Toppesfield, Essex 1801 Census

From the Essex Village Signs website
www.villagesigns-essex.co.uk/pages/t.shtml
As mentioned in my previous post, there were two censuses at the end of the 1791-1812 burial register for St Margaret of Antioch, Toppesfield.  Here is the 1801 census.  Only one name was illegible - the forename of Wright, a labourer.  The 1811 census suggests that it might have been George or William, but it almost looks like Thomas.  There were several Wright families, so the baptismal and burial registers don't help clear up the matter.

Of interest in the 1801 census are the abbreviated notes of the curate, George Pawson, showing how many labouring families (F) lived in the same cottage (C). The most crowded dwelling was that of Francis Letch, with four families in the same cottage, a total of twelve people.  Francis doesn't appear on the 1811 census and I wonder if his family were able to improve their living conditions in another village.
