From the Essex Village Signs website www.villagesigns-essex.co.uk/pages/t.shtml |
Of interest in the 1801 census are the abbreviated notes of the curate, George Pawson, showing how many labouring families (F) lived in the same cottage (C). The most crowded dwelling was that of Francis Letch, with four families in the same cottage, a total of twelve people. Francis doesn't appear on the 1811 census and I wonder if his family were able to improve their living conditions in another village.
